The Blue Heron Art Gallery and Cultural Center was formed in June 2007, under the auspices of the Volant Community Development Corporation. The VCDC is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to the restoration of the Volant Mill and the surrounding area, including the Volant Dam, in order to enhance tourism, while retaining the quaint historic atmosphere of this charming village.
The Blue Heron connects the visitors of Volant with the creative talents and expertise of local artists from Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio. The rural landscapes and Amish farms that surround the communities along the route 208 corridor inspire these Artisans.
The artisans' media include pottery, photography, glass, ceramics, jewelry, textiles, prints, and acrylic, watercolor, and oil paintings. Presently the gallery is displaying the works of over forty local artisans. Be sure not to miss Betty's Vintage Clothing that span several decades.
On the grounds of the gallery can be found a community garden and restored historical buildings from a bygone era. Tourists are encouraged to explore these unique surroundings.
